OCZ's Rebate Cul-De-Sac

You 'may' or 'may not' get your rebate.

A history and auto-biography of my ongoing hassle to try to get a simple $20 rebate due me from OCZ...and the run around you'll get.

"Buyer-Be-Ware!" was a note from a Federal US Supreme Court Judge way back when in the early 1900's.

It's not really that big of an issue to me personally, not for a measely $20...unless you consider someone is doing that $20 shuffle to 20,000 people per month or so...give or take 5,000 consumers.

I am sure there have been many frustrated customers on this issue...

OCZ's policy of a 12 day period for rebates on memory is unexpectedly and irritatingly short. As I am sure many others did, when I finally did receive my memory....I put it to the side, eventually installed it and then later, while catching up on lose ends...went to fill out my rebate form on Newegg.com. Low and behold ! 12 DAYS ONLY TO FILE A REBATE !?!?!?! I know of no other brand name memory that has adopted this short of a period. I assumed since the special on Newegg was for the dates of 9-1-2008 to 9-30-2008 that I was well within any rebate time limit.

I was ready to shuck the rebate form and UPC and never buy OCZ again (far past frustration as you can tell) after just this month also being slicked over by MSI (bought two SLi video cards with rebates, then found out that I couldn't get a rebate on the second card to the same address) I wasn't brandishing much patience or loyalty on rebate issues. SteveOCZ replied to the other member that he could get them in touch with a rebate clerk to resolve the issue and get an extension for the rebate.

Can I ask for some much needed help here also and get that link to the rebate clerk for support on this issue please.

It doesn't really seem good business to me to risk the loss of customers by setting a new standard for the shortest rebate allowance time period in history SMILES

Thanks in advance for the help...respectfully mentioned, maybe someone might wanna make a sticky titled "rebate extensions and limits" if I may offer polite advice as a first timer newbie to the forums?

PS: I am glad I ran across the forum anyway...the stickies on timing and voltage are great advice

A decent and most likely honest reply and attempt from a concerned forum main moderator:

I am writing to respond to the issue of missing out on my rebate due to the offensively short 12 day rebate policy OCZ practiced until last month. I know many complaints were filed with you, evidenced by the mere fact that now, OCZ’s rebate policy on memory was extended to 21 days instead of 12 on recently purchased memory 'as of 10/1/2008'.

I purchased two sticks and missed the $20…12 day rebate deadline as so many others have. All other brands and companies extend pretty much or right close to a 30 day rebate period, other than OCZ for some mundane reason and I am sure it is losing OCZ customers. There were an ABUNDANCE of other complaints on the forums and on NewEgg.com’s review section, but I am sure you are already familiar with the number of unsatisfied customers. Undoubtedly, OCZ’s policy to go to a 12 day rebate period has cost them dar more in lost sales to dissatisfied customers who will not be returning for business out of anger, than they have ever saved by not having to pay the rebates.

Here’s just a few of the reviews on NewEgg.com concerning the same memory, and I do emphasize, a mere FEW of all listed:

Cons: Rebate has to be filed within 12 days of purchase date. It's been 11 days and I still haven't got my order. Memphis warehouse to DHL, DHL to processing center in HEBRON, KY, US to USPS back to Memphis. (Supersaver shipping).

REPLY FROM OCZ: Manufacturer Response: Hello, we understand that delays can occur. We will gladly give you an extension on your rebate postmark date to allow you to file. Please visit our support forums at the link below and post in the rebate section for assistance.
Thank you

Cons: It will be the last time I buy an OCZ product...they've slid a miniscule 12 day rebate period in there to trap buyers into possibly losing their rebate by not filing soon enough. There's far too much competition out there in the memory market for OCZ to be getting folks angry. They've lost my business and I am sure others also. Beware! Read any and all rebate information BEFORE buying!

Note: No reply given from OCZ

Cons: timings are 5-5-5-15 NOT 5-5-5-12 but not a huge difference anyway, only have 2 weeks to send in rebate but have to wait months to get it back????

Note: No reply given from OCZ

Cons: rebate is no good after 14 days.. took a long time to ship... 9 days!

Note: No reply given from OCZ

Cons: Be wary of any promised rebates- my rebate was rejected even though I properly filled it out and should have received it. If you buy it, be aware that there is a good chance you will pay full price and never receive your rebate money.

Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are sorry for the problem. Obviously there was an error made in the processing of your rebate. Please visit our support forums at the link below and post about your rebate issue. You will be assisted, and your rebate will be straightened out.
Thank you

Other Thoughts: Love the rebate but I wish the testing period was longer than 14 days. Newegg always rocks with their speed of service and customer support. I have never received any bad sticks from them.

Cons: MIR Did not work out even though I clearly have everything, I printed out the MIR form the day I bought the ram, and they claim its the wrong receipt date.

Other Thoughts: Get other ram if you plan on getting it for the MIR otherwise its all good.

Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are very sorry for your rebate problem. We pay all valid rebates. We will gladly help you resolve this matter. Please visit our support forums for prompt assistance.
Thank you

Cons: HATE the rebate program. You get 14 whole days to order-receive it-install and check it out. ANY Vendor the can not give at least 30 days for a rebate will not get any purchase from me.

Other Thoughts: Newegg rocks! Vendors with under 30 days rebates can keep their products

Manufacturer Response:Hello, we are happy that you the memory worked well for you. If any OCZ customer has a problem meeting rebate terms, dues to shipping delay, etcetera, please see our support forums at the link below and we will provide you with prompt assistance. We value our customers greatly.
Thank you

I left a thread on the OCZ official site forum pertaining to the issue, and received the below replies from STEVEOCZ, system moderator.

Here’s the personal message I received in reply from “STEVEOZ”, a forum Moderator although it did not go to my e-mail as selected…

I received it today while pondering why I had not received an e-mail from your rebate department after sending in my rebate form

Now, I had already sent my rebate form in prior to receiving that message from STEVEOCZ…with all required invoices, UPC label and paperwork even though it was late. Guess you’d have to send me the secret information on how to check for your rebate status online like all the other brand names have. Please understand, I am not trying to be snotty…I am frustrated and disappointed of course. With so much for the consumer to be wary of out there in the merchandise market, we don’t need to worry about trusted brand name companies seemingly seeking to find any way possible to squeeze the almighty dollar out of us with such sly tactics.

Your own responses to the many other complaints on NewEgg.com customer reviews, was to have them respond to the forum. In responding to the forum, you hit the circle cul-de-sac turn-around and we are then told to e-mail you at the rebate department. Why the shuffle run around?

I guess I will quit whining in your e-mail ear, and simply ask…can you re-install some integrity here and let me know how we can resolve this issue? I have spent quite some time tracing down some kind of an answer for this dilemma, and compiling this e-mail with as much informative helpful details and hidden, small print hints for better policy as I could , and hope to hear something back other than “OCZ is not responsible for shipping delays” or  “the MIR was clearly stated if you had of looked at the fine print, sorry?”

Thank you in advance for any and all help…and especially your patience.

Sincerely

DJD

Now, before I go on...

so it doesn't seem like I am ranting-n'-raving mad!

In my case, persoanlly as I am writing about, I realize that maybe or not this could possibly be a short little twit on a flat chair in front of a computer that is having a bad hair day, and decided to blow somebody off today as an explanation for a tough, unlikeable job, rather than a true execution of OCZ's company policy on memory rebates. Disregard that as of 10/01/2008..OCZ as a major conglamerate changed their rebate policy to 21 days submittion time..

However, I've yet to see out of all the reveiws and mentions of bad rebate posts, an actual mutual happy resolve to a complaint and gripe.

continuing...with little hope
